Female urinal, England, 1801-1810 |
||
Description |
Urinals in this form were known as bourdalous, but were also commonly called ‘coach pots’ as they were used by passengers to relieve themselves during long journeys back in the days of horse-drawn coach travel. This example was made by Spode of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, a company well known for their blue and white transfer printed designs. This design was known as ‘Old Peacock’ as it features peacocks in a garden. maker: Spode Place made: England, United Kingdom Wellcome Images |
