Français : « Rien n'est perdu, revenez vite. »
Aramis, supérieur général de la Compagnie de Jésus, duc d'Alameda, Grand d'Espagne et ambassadeur du Roi catholique, lisant une lettre du confesseur jésuite de Louis XIV, le père de La Chaize.
Ce dernier implore l'ancien mousquetaire de revenir vite car la favorite, Mme de Montespan, vient d'être répudiée au profit de Françoise d'Aubigné, la future Mme de Maintenon. Cette nouvelle conjoncture amènera peut-être le Roi-soleil à prendre finalement en considération l'objectif commun des deux jésuites : la révocation de l'édit de Nantes...
