Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. It has been in use since 2002. The lift is named after the town of Falkirk, which is nearby in central Scotland. It revolves about the centre and as one boat descends another goes up (both still afloat) and both in perfect balance. The wheel raises boats by 24 metres (79 ft). To do so it uses 1.5 kilowatt-hours per half-turn, roughly the same as boiling eight kettles of water - whilst moving a combined weight of 550 tonnes. Very efficient!
