English: THE SOLAR PATRIOT, A MODULAR HOME DISPLAYED ON THE NATIONAL MALL IN APRIL, 2001 AS PART OF THE SOLAR FORUM 2001, WAS PERMANENTLY INSTALLED IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA. THIS ZERO ENERGY HOME PRODUCES ALL THE ENERGY IT NEEDS FEATURING PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS, PASSIVE SOLAR DESIGNS, GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMP, COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTING AND HIGH EFFICIENCY APPLIANCES. IT IS CONNECTED TO THE ELECTRICITY GRID, BUT HAS THE CAPABILITY TO OPERATE AT LEAST 24 HOURS WITHOUT ELECTRICITY FROM THE UTILITY.
