English: New Orleans, La., 10-20-05 -- An abandoned bus lies among garbage on a traffic island in the 9th district in New Orleans. The bus was used by residents of this ward to try and flee from flood waters during Hurricane Katrina. The balck crepe is in memory of those who died. Photo by Patsy Lynch
The black fabric is not in memory of those who died. It is fabric from my neighbor's flooded out seamstress shop across the street that was draped across the bus as part of our (L'art Noir New Orleans Gallery) "Toxic Art" exhibit - a collaborative art exhibit created out of flooded items from our houses. The fabric on the side of the bus read "This is not a Cristo" as a humorous poke at both the artist Cristo and the whole post-Katrina situation. |
