Summary[edit]

Description A Soviet Ilyushin Il-38 Dolphin patrol aircraft (NATO reporting name: May), top, being escorted by a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet (BuNo 162893) from Strike Fighter Squadron 151 (VFA-151) "Vigilantes" and a Grumman KA-6D Intruder (BuNo 152619) from Attack Squadron 185 (VA-185) "Nighthawks". Both squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41) for a deployment to the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean from 15 August to 11 December 1989.
