View of the tails of Grumman F9F-8 Cougars from Fighter Squadron 91 (VF-91) "Red Lightnings" aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge (CVA-33), circa in 1956. VF-91 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 5 (CVG-5) aboard the Kearsarge for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 26 October 1955 to 17 May 1956. VF-91 was called upon to replace the maintenance-problem-ridden VF-51 "Screaming Eagles" that was originally scheduled for the cruise. |
