Description

A U.S. Navy Vought F8U-1P Crusader (BuNo 145643) of Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron VFP-63 DET.G "Eyes of the Fleet" in flight above the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA-34). VFP-63 DET.G was assigned to Carrier Air Group 16 (CVG-16) aboard the Oriskany for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 7 June to 17 December 1962.

The RF-8A 145643 crashed after developing engine trouble during escort of Soviet Tupolev Tu-95 aircraft on 21 November 1967. The pilot was forced to eject and was recovered without injury.
