Summary[edit]

Description
English: Excavations at "King Arthur's Well" Sites and place names attributed to King Arthur abound in many parts of the country, including here on the Hadrians Wall National Trail

http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/hadrianswall/ east of Walltown.

The opportunity has been taken following the disturbance caused by path construction at this point to excavate the site. What has been found is evidence of a hitherto unknown Roman building - definitely pre-Arthurian and definitely not a well. The Trail continues eastwards up a steep slope where steps have been constructed to limit erosion.
