Summary[edit]

Description Pelops was interested in the hand of Hippodamia, the daughter of King Oenomaus. The king was fearful that a prophecy would come true in which he would be killed by his son-in-law, and organized chariot races in which thirteen suitors already died. Pelops and Hippodamia want to win the chariot race and convince the king's charioteer, Myrtilus, to sabotage the king's chariot. In return Myrtilus demanded half of Oenomaus' kingdom and the first night in bed with Hippodamia. During the race the chariot broke down; Myrtilus survived, but the king was dragged along by the horses and died. When Myrtilus claimed his part of the bargain he was killed by Pelops.
