English: Eton College rowing centre - the spectators Dorney Lake is the home of Eton College rowing centre, which will be the location for the rowing events at the 2012 London Olympic games.
This weekend it is hosting the Human Race sprint triathlon. Competitors start with the 400 metre swim, which takes the better swimmers 6-8 minutes. That is followed by a 20km cycle, taking 35-40 minutes. They finish with a 5km run taking 18-20 minutes. Nearly 1,000 people took part over the two days, divided by sex and into 5-year age groups. The starts are staggered, and as people go at different speeds there can be competitors all over the place at any one time, making it a difficult event to follow. The spectators were probably all family and friends of the competitors. There were never very many of them so the whole spectating experience would have been very relaxed apart from the strong wind and squally rain. |
