Summary[edit]

Description
English: Esk at low tide The Rive Esk drains part of the North York Moors and flows out through the harbour at Whitby. Here it is in the final tidal stretch as it flows under the high bridge carrying the A171 over both river and railway. Seen near low tide, extensive mudbanks are exposed, presenting a somewhat dismal appearance under a low overcast with drizzle. The abbey is somewhere in that cloud visible under the central span of the bridge.
