Description
Español: El escudo que identifica a la Ciudad de Guatemala es el mismo que otorgó a la Ciudad de Santiago la reina doña Juana y el Emperador Carlos V de España. Está dividido en dos partes: En la parte superior se representa al apóstol Santiago bajo cuya advocación fue fundadada la ciudad. En la parte inferior tres volcanes, el del centro en erupción. Los volcanes de las esquinas tienen unas cruces y árboles en señal del esfuerzo de los cristianos, y de todas las personas de buena voluntad, de sembrar paz y alegría en la urbe recién fundada. El escudo está rodeado por una orla con ocho veneras (insignias) de los caballeros de las órdenes militares.
