Summary[edit]
DescriptionErosion patterns - geograph.org.uk - 811292.jpg |
English: Erosion patterns This picture of the side of a V-shaped valley illustrates the erosion mechanism: The slope is too steep for plants to root deep enough to stop the gradual flow of the top soil. As a result, horizontal wave patterns are formed. Any further disturbance, e.g. due to flash flooding or animal activity, can lead to the formation of small-scale landslides, exposing the crumbly underlying rock. Next, vegetation begins to cover the scar, and the cycle begins again. |
