Description {
English: A pottery tile of the Han Dynasty, depicting hunting and battle scenes containing emblematic figures of the "five cardinal directions" (more precisely, the "five squares", 五方, i.e. the four cardinal directions - N S E W -, plus the center). The five sacred mountains of China were also associated with these "5 cardinal directions". Cernuschi Museum, Paris, France. A description of this item can be found e.g. in Chinese Mythology by Anthony Christie.
