How Measles Is Spread The immediate cause of measles is supposed to be acertain kind of germ, or microbe, which is contained inthe discharge that comes from the patients nose ormouth. The infectious material may be thrown off inthe spray caused by sneezing or in the spittle whencoughing. Drinking glasses, cups, dishes, spoons, towels, hand-kerchiefs, napkins, clothing, bedding, and other articlesused by the patient may carry the germs, and other per-sons using them before they are well disinfected, maytake the germs into the system and thus contractmeasles. The fingers or hands may convey the germs to an-other in shaking hands or in handling dishes or utensilsthat have been used by the patient. The infected handswill most likely carry the germs
