Notes Pair of fringed epaulettes, 58th Regiment, New Zealand Wars Belonged to Dr TM Philson, 58th Regiment Dr Thomas More Philson came to New Zealand in 1845 as Assistant Surgeon to the 58th Regiment. He served in the battle of Ruapekapeka in the Bay of Islands and was present (and mentioned-in-despatches) at the Battle of Ruapekapeka . After serving with the regiment in Wellington and Wanganui, Dr. Philson resigned his commission in the army tn 1850 to commence private practice in Auckland. He was appointed surgeon to the Auckland provincial hospital in 1858, which post he held for 25 years, and was also district coroner, and surgeon to Her Majesty's gaol. Dr. Philson died on the 22nd of November, 1899.
