Tombstone of Engelberg (or Engelbrecht) van der Vorst ( ? - 1556)

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Tombstone of Engelberg (or Engelbrecht) van der Vorst ( ? - 1556).

Most famous for having captured a French king (Francis 1st Valois), and his sword, at the Battle of Pavia, 1525 (Italy), and sent him in captivity in Spain – under the reign (1519-1556) of Charles V Habsburg (1500-1558), Holy Roman Emperor, King of Spain, &c.

Three (3) centuries later, a vengeful N. Buonaparte, then in power in France, having invaded Spain to overthrow King Carlos IV Borbonico (Bourbon) – and place a member of his family on the Throne of Spain –, had it brought back to Paris in 1808.
