A press with twovices occurs in an illuminated Bible ofthe fifteenth century. Strutt has en-graved a wine-press in his Horda.P Printing. The following is Dib-dins account: The first printer is ge-nerally considered to be Gutenberg,who opened the art to Fust, and theearliest important specimen, by metaltypes, is Gutenbergs and Fusts Bible,of (J37 leaAes, printed between theyears 1450 and 1455. Rude specimensfrom wooden blocks appeared in Hol-land as soon as 1440, and at Mentzfrom the same materials before 1450;but this is accounted a difierent art,and was probably borrowed from theChinese.
