Mrs. F.Y. Dalziel, Noted Big Game Hunter, Dies. Had Narrow Escape From Death when Huge Rhinoceros Attacked Her in Africa. By the Associated Press. New York; September 13, 1937. Mrs. Frederick Young Dalziel, who hunted grizzly bears in the West and big game in Africa, died of pneumonia at Nantucket, Massachusetts, yesterday at the age of 51, friends were advised today. She had been in ill health for some time. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George H. Hoffman and inherited two fortunes. As Emily Key Hoffman she was married in 1901 to Mr. Dalziel in London and they lived abroad for many years. Mrs. Dalziel, with her daughters, hunted big game in the far West. In 1921 she came out of East Africa with an elephant, two rhinoceros, seven lions, three hippopotamuses and other game as her trophies. On one of her hunting expeditions in Africa she had a narrow escape from death when a rhinoceros charged her. She was thrown into the brambles. Her life was saved when Sir Charles Ross, noted rifle inventor, felled the beast with a timely shot. Mrs. Dalziel is survived by her husband and two daughters, both of this city.
