Title
English: Emil and Alice Schanno and friends boating off Alki Point, Seattle, 1903
Description
English:

Emil Sabastian Schanno (1872-1936) and Alice May (Cameron) Schanno (1869-1952) lived most of their married lives near Alki Point in West Seattle, where they operated one of the area's first restaurants, at 2758 Alki Avenue SW. Around the same time that the Schannos opened their restaurant, Alki Point had begun to grow into a destination resort area for Seattleites escaping rapid urbanization. Along with restaurants, other attractions included a natatorium (a building housing a swimming pool), a dance hall, the Stockade Hotel and cottages, a steamer providing hourly service from Seattle's central waterfront, and in 1908 a trolley line. In this image Emil and Alice Schanno and two unidentified friends enjoy a boating excursion in Puget Sound. The boat was probably part of the Schanno's Alki Point boat rental business.
