Summary[edit]
DescriptionEllenroad Mill engines - geograph.org.uk - 2931.jpg |
English: Ellenroad Mill engine. Situated in the Engine House visible from the M62 motorway, this engine used to power one of the last steam driven Lancashire spinning Mills. The mill itself has since been demolished, but the twin engines Victoria and Alexandra are preserved and run monthly for visitors. They form the largest surviving mill engine. Multiple ropes round the flywheel in the picture drove lineshafts on each floor of the mill which in turn powered the mill machinery. |
