Summary[edit]

Description
English:
Elephant, India, ca. 1920
Black and white lantern slide showing a large elephant being led by two Indian men. The elephant has been decorated with symbols for the moon and stars. The tips of the animal's tusks look to have been cut off. A bell hangs around the animal's neck. The elephant may be taking part in a local festival, or mela. This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
