Externally the cars were renovated by painting themin the companys new standard color, Aurora red forthe body, citron yellow for the posts and trimmings and the wiring was placed in metal conduit with ar-mored flexible cable connections to the center vestibule. Other equipment which would go into the reconstruc-tion cost of these cars are H. B. wheel guards, Wil-son trolley-catchers and Gold heaters with thermostatcontrol for each end section and separate switch con-trol for the center section. As one of the illustrationsof the center vestibule shows, the trolley catchers arein the vestibule. Each side of this vestibule is alsoprovided with ladders to enable the conductor to reachthe roof and to afford a hand-hold for the passengersas they leave or enter the cars. Internally, the cars were reno-vated by finishing the ceiling in white enamel. Tung-sten 23-watt lamps were also installed, thus addinggreatly to the attractiveness of the interior. Instead of using leather handstraps, the company hasfitted this unit with a Rico tubular porcelain glazedmetal hanger of B. R. T. design. This hanger has theusual tension spring by which it assumes an angle outof the way of the passenger when it is not being heldvertically by him, but it has been improved in the man-ner of attachment to the rod, since it can be taken offmerely by the loosening of a single nut.
