Description
English: Elderberry, groundnut, and cowparsnip. Spotted this wild species assembly at the north edge of a sassafrass colony at Hammonasset beach on Connecticut, on Long Island Sound. EDIBLE USES: fruit (elderberry), flowers (elderberry), roots (groundnut, cow parsnip), stalks (cow parsnip). FUNCTIONS: nitrogen fixation (groundnut), beneficial insect nectary (cow parsnip, elderberry).
