Description
English: Members of the Elder Scientific Exploring Expedition, 1891-92. Taken in 1891 before the start (R. Ramsay added to the group later). From Left to right: H.W. Leache (second in command); L.A. Wells (surveyor); A. Warren (cook); D. Lindsay (leader); Robert Ramsay; V. Streich (geologist); H.J. Elliot (surgeon); R. Helms (naturalist); A.P. Gwynne (assistant). Robert Ramsay, the eldest son of the Hon. J.G. Ramsay, was appointed to act as axeman, chainman, ostler, etc. Ramsay failed to keep and appointment at the photographers' and had to be added to the group subsequently. See letter from H.W. Smith, 30 September, 1933. Compare with B497.
