Description
Español: Fue pintado por Murillo originariamente para el convento de los Capuchinos de Sevilla, hacia el año 1665, y fue cedido a la catedral de Sevilla en 1814 por los monjes de dicho convento como agradecimiento por haber custodiado su tesoro artístico en 1810, durante la Guerra de la Independencia Española. Muchas de las obras de arte del convento y de la catedral hispalense se trasladaron a Gibraltar para evitar la rapiña del mariscal Soult. Sin embargo, el lienzo que hacía pareja con esta obra, y que representaba a San Miguel Arcángel desapareció en el mencionado traslado, aunque ambos cuadros no formaban parte de los ciclos situados en la iglesia del convento, sino que se hallaban en las dependencias interiores del mismo.
