Description
Deutsch: Ein Neger saugt seinem englischen Herrn das Schlangengift aus der Wunde (Bernhard Rode 1782). Aus einem Gemäldezyklus für Gut Neuhaus (Ostholstein) im Auftrag von Friedrich von Hahn (1742-1805). Das Bild “zeigt einen durch einen Schlangenbiss verletzten Engländer, dem der herbeigeeilte Neger das Gift aus der Wunde saugt. Die Herkunft des Themas war nicht zu ermitteln. Es scheint auf eine Idee Rodes oder seines Auftraggebers zurückzugehen und die Haltung widerzuspiegeln, die man damals den sog. ‚Wilden‘ einnahm. Sie wurden zwar allgemein als minderwertige Rasse betrachtet, doch wurden ihnen positive Eigenschaften, wie z.B.
