Not only will such topics as these bediscussed, but there will be given ample opportunity for reviewwork and practice in these subjects. The Teaching of Geography: 4 hours. This course will include the study of local geography, NorthCarolina geography, and commercial geography. These will bestudied from the viewpoint of getting and organizing the subject-matter and the improved methods of presenting it to the children. American Citizenship: 4 hours. The purpose of this course is to show (a) that the Governmentas an agent of common welfare touches the life of every com-munity through its three branches—national, state, local; (b)that the work to be done in order to maintain and increase theefficiency of the Government rests upon the individual citizen

Arithmetic in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. This course will treat of the improved methods of teachingarithmetic in the upper grades of the elementary school. It in-cludes such topics as: (a) the teaching of arithmetic through pro-jects vs. the aimless teaching of arithmetic; (b) what are realproblems in arithmetic and where these problems may be found;(c) accuracy in arithmetic, waste in arithmetic, the great valueof oral arithmetic. Algebra may be substituted for this work in arithmetic if theclass wishes it. Household Economics: 4 hours. Handwriting and Drawing: 4 hours. Music, Games, Folk Songs and Dances: 4 hours.
