Title |
Early medieval strapend |
||
Description |
English: An early medieval cast copper alloy strap fitting. It may be a strapend of unusual form (not easily classifiable under Thomas' typology), and probably dates betwen the 5th and 9th centuries. The fitting is of deep rectangular cross section, and subrectangular profile. It features a transverse slot midway along its length, dividing its profile into two square fields. The proximal field features two round attachment holes (diameter 1.5mm) close to the edge, which sinuously curves around these perforations. In section, this end is slotted to a depth of 4mm, presumably for attachment of a trap or similar. The proximal end features a hooped projection, completed by two terminal lugs. |
