Title
Early medieval copper alloy knife pommel
Description
English: A copper alloy sword pommel of 'cocked hat' form. It is hollow, with an open top and a round perforation at the base. Both faces are decorated with oblique lines in the lower corners, while intersecting ring-and-dot motifs of various sizes cover the remaining space on each surface. It can be dated to the Middle or Late Saxon (Viking) periods.

While not of the very highest standards of workmanship, the pommel, and the sword to which it belonged, nonetheless represents considerable investment in time and resources, and would have been a prized possession.

The pommel has a deep brown/green patina, and is well-preserved. It measures 49.4mm long, 15.3mm wide, and 10.7mm in total thickness (depth). It weighs 10.7g.
