The Clywd–Powys Archaeological Trust however believes the tribrach is supposed to represent the archiepiscopal pall and was used by the Canterbury mint. The central letter may be a variant of the usual Alpha and Omega (ω) motif or a similarly styled overbar m intending Merciae ("[King] of Mercia") or Merciorum ("[King] of the Mercians").
