Description
English: Early Medieval silver penny of Coenwulf of Mercia (BMC 93), 19mm in diameter, 0.5mm thick and weighing 1.22grams. The Clywd–Powys Archaeological Trust believes the tribrach is supposed to represent the archiepiscopal pall, suggesting the coin was minted at Canterbury. The central letter may be a variant of the usual Alpha and Omega (ω) motif or a similarly styled overbar m intending Merciae ("[King] of Mercia") or Merciorum ("[King] of Mercians").
