Title
Early Medieval coin : penny of Coenwulf of Mercia
Description
English: Early Medieval coin : penny of Coenwulf of Mercia.

The Clywd–Powys Archaeological Trust believes the tribrach is supposed to represent the archiepiscopal pall thus giving the opinion that this coin was struck at Canterbury. The central letter is a variant of the usual Alpha (Α) and Omega (ω) motif but may represent a stylized overbar m intending Merciae ("[King] of Mercia") or Merciorum ("[King] of the Mercians").
