Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) Coin: Penny of Coenwulf of Mercia
Description
English: An incomplete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Coenwulf of Mercia (796-821); East Anglian portrait type (c. 800-821); mint: East Anglia (Ipswich?); moneyer: Lul (North 1994: 94, ref: 363; Naismith E10.2).

The coin is most similar to Naismith E10.2q showing the same larger bust and spelling on the obverse, and the same lettering style and decorative rosettes of pellets on the reverse.

Obverse: CoNVVLF [REX m]; Large draped and diademed bust facing right

Reverse: +/L/V/L; Long cross fourchee enclosing moneyer's name; rosette of pellets in each outer angle

Diameter: 18.7mm. Weight: 0.89g.
