English: An incomplete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Coenwulf. Substantive type, AD 796-c. 805 (North 1980, 64, ref. 342).


The Clywd–Powys Archaeological Trust believes the tribrach is supposed to represent the archiepiscopal pall. The central letter may be a varient of the usual Alpha and Omega (ω) motif or a similarly styled overbar m abbreviating Merciae ("[King] of Mercia") or Merciorum ("[King] of the Mercians").
