English: Unveiling of memorial, Messines, Belgium, after World War I. This is one of two photographs of Field Marshal (Earl) Haig (1861-1928) at the unveiling of the memorial of the London Scottish Regiment at Messines, Belgium. It shows Haig talking to the Belgian king, Albert I (1875-1934). They appear to be walking away after the ceremony. The London Scottish Regiment was the first Territorial regiment in action at the Battle of Messines on 31 October 1914. |
