Description
English: Dr. Anna Dvorak, a pulmonary critical care physician with Seton Medical Center, Austin, Texas, uses a clamp to demonstrate pressure on tubes that simulate a bladder during a class on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) at the Wilford Hall Medical Center's Simulation Center March 25, 2011, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. ECMO is a heart-lung bypass system that is used to provide temporary heart and lung function to critically ill patients during periods of severe cardiopulmonary failure. This intense three-day course was the fourth course in the U.S., the first held at an Air Force hospital, designed for physicians and specialists caring for adult patients with severe acute respiratory failure who need to be placed on ECMO.
