Description
English: Legend: Plan of Peking. (Scale, one mile and a half to an inch.)

The gates in the northern wall are the Deshengmen ("Gate of Virtuous Triumph") and Andingmen ("Gate of Peaceful Stability").

The gates in the central wall are the Shunchengmen ("Gate of Obedient Succession"), Qianmen ("Front Gate"), and Hademen ("Gate of the Hada Clan").

The gates in the southern wall are Nanximen (actually "Xinanmen" or "Southwest Gate"), Yongdingmen ("Gate of Eternal Stability"), and Zuo'anmen ("Southwest Gate of Peace").

The gates in the western wall are Xizhimen ("Gate of the Western Axis"), Pingzemen ("Gate of Tranquility"), and Zhangyimen ("Gate of Conspicuous Appearance").

The gates in the eastern wall are Dongzhimen ("Gate of the Eastern Axis"), Qihuamen ("Gate of the Qihua Clan"), and Shawomen ("Sand-Pit Gate").
