| Description | “Ike” presided over a cold war, managed a segregation crisis at home and the civil rights movement, During his two terms, the United States experienced a surge in prosperity under his steady and wise leadership. He won two elections by a landslide against an outstanding Democratic candidate, Adlai Stevenson. A popular president, he seemed to represent the best in an America that became a beacon of hope in the world, despite an undercurrent that would explode in the 1960’s. He wasn’t considered an outstanding president when he left office but his stock has risen considerably in the decades that followed. |
