Summary[edit]

Description
English: This False Colour image, captured by Sentinel-2 on 24 July 2020, shows the development of a dust storm in the Atacama desert in Chile. The dust went all the way towards the Atlantic Ocean after crossing Argentina and passing over the city of Buenos Aires. This event is different from sand storms originating in the Saharan desert, which usually have a much larger extent due to the difference in soil composition. Dust storms can affect air quality even far away from their origin. With a revisit time of one day, the Copernicus Sentinel-5P satellite delivers free and open data that can be used for air quality monitoring with global coverage, by exploiting specific data products that are derived from the satellite measurements.
