Summary[edit]

Description

I'm a little late, but better late than never, I'd say. So, September 9th marked the 15th anniversary of the PlayStation brand, in America. The first PlayStation actually debuted in Japan almost a year earlier than it did in America. As a result of a lost partnership with then market leader, Nintendo, Sony created the PlayStation as a response to Nintendo's refusal to adopt a CD based cartridge system. Later did Nintendo know, it would only come to bite them in the arse. With Sony and Nintendo having departed from a partnership, which could have ruled the whole video game market, gave rise to systems such as the Xbox, Xbox360, PlayStation 1, 2, 3, and the beloved Dreamcast. As a result, PlayStation came to be one of the biggest market franchises in the video game industry. With the PlayStation 2 having held the largest sales records for a while, Sony's departure from Nintendo, and introduction to console manufacturing gave life and popularity to franchises and characters such as Gran Tursimo, Final Fantasy, and Solid Snake. Though I am/was a Nintendo fanboy, having owned all the Nintendo systems to date, I still love the PlayStation and PlayStation Network (Heck, I owned all three PlayStations as well). Here's to a happy 15, and to many more to come!
