Deutsch: Schnittskizze eines Goldbergwerks im Yukon territory. Zugang durch den Haspelschacht shaft, der den Permafrostboden frozen gravel durchteuft. Von der Sohle des Schachtes wird eine Strecke (oder Weitung) drift in der goldführenden Schicht gold-bearing sediment aufgefahren und dabei das Gold abgebaut. Die Tundra ist im arktischen Sommer moosbedeckt (moss), zwischen der Tagesoberfläche und dem Permafrostboden befindet sich eine Schicht Moorerde (muck). English: Diagram of a drift mine in frozen ground, as found in Alaska or Yukon in the early 20th century. The notation TAR is presumably the artist's initials (Thomas Arthur Rickard) |
