asy manipulation. The Charcoal Points are made of the best wood for the purpose, and their carbonization is complete. They are small, fairly tough, to facilitate insertion in the root-canals. Within the narrow limits ofroot-canal calibers, they vary considerably, but are not made in exact sizes. They are forced into the canal, and then crushed and packed so that the entire canal is filled withthis lasting deodorant and disinfectant. The Points can be medicated, if desired, at the time they areinserted; the porous nature of the material enables it to take up the medicament to the saturationpoint quickly. This gives the operator the opportunity of using whatever drug seems desirable. Dr.Arndt prefers to use the Points without medication, as he claims that the remarkable absorbentcapacity of the charcoal for the gases of putrefaction affords all the protection necessary.Put up in boxes of 100. HE remodeled con-struction shown in theDoriot Handpiece No. 3affords many advantages incase of manipulation, accu-racy of work and durabilityof parts. A union nut attachessheath and frame, entirelyclosing in the bearing be-tween them, reducing thewear in the swiveling of thesheath and affording aneatly designed, well-bal-anced handpiece. It alsoprovides a convenient andquick means of removingand replacing the sheathfor oiling and for attachingangle and mallet attach-ments without removing orchanging sheaths. (Seenext page.) The double-cone chuck (the same as has always beenused in the No. 7 Handpiece with the greatest satisfac-tion) holds securely any straight-shank bit of standardsize. The chuck is operated by a nut at the back end,but by a thrust movement, which is a decided advanceover the old pull. The spindle has taper bearings at both ends—in thenose-piece and in the collet. This provides the means for adjust-ments to efficiently take up lateral or end wear.
