Summary[edit]

Description

Age of Vespasian (AD 69-79).

Marble.

From Rome, Tiber, near Via Giulia.

Rome, Museo Nazionale Romano, Terme di Diocleziano, inv. 53

For this portrait, characterised by the thick coiffure and facial features different from Vespasian’s, the reuse of a head of Nero has been hypothesised. The work therefore represents the passage from the Julio-Claudian to the Flavian periods.
