| Description |
English: Westbound coal train on Worsborough Incline, with two banking engines. View westward, towards West Silkstone, Penistone, Woodhead Tunnel and Manchester: ex-GC Aldam Junction - West Silkstone Junction (Barnsley avoiding line). The photograph was taken a few minutes after SE3004 : Westbound coal train on Worsborough Branch, which depicted two WDs at the front end! The train needed two bankers as well - and the four engines made a fine sight and sound - ex-GC Robinson J11 No. 64374 (ex- 5245, built 7/1904, withdrawn 7/55) and ex-WD 2-8-0 No.90709. The latter was a late Vulcan build (1/45), did not work in England before being shipped to France early in 1945, worked in Belgium and was returned in 1947, being taken on loan by the LNER in 10/47 at Mexborough; it worked at various Depots on BR(ER) (later as No. 90709) and lasted until 4/66. |
