Four diagrams representing intensity and dissipation in homogeneous turbulence

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Distribution of turbulent kinetic energy (left) and turbulent dissipation rate (right) in fully-developed homogeneous isotropic turbulence.

The two top diagrams are in linear scale. The two bottom diagrams represent the same data in logarithmic scale. The horizontal axis represent the inverse of the size interval (l) of vortices, with Λ size of the largest and η the size of the smallest vortices.

The vertical axes display, on the left, the turbulent kinetic energy per size increment (the integral of which is k), and on the right, the turbulent energy dissipation per size increment (the integral of which is ε).
