If these conditions cannot be complied with in thepatients house, she had better be moved elsewhere. Thebowels should be cleared by an aperient given the night before,aided by an enema on the morning of the operation. Theparticular aperient given is unimportant. Many womenhabitually take some aperient; and if the patient thus knowsof one that suits her, that is the one to give. The patientshould take no food for six hours before the operation. Im-mediately before the patient gets on the table she should-empty the bladder. If there be any doubt about the bladderhaving been emptied a catheter should be passed. 92 DISEASES OF WOMEN.
