In theBrown-Sequard variety, besides the partial sensory paralysis which is usuallyvery conspicuous upon one side of the body, there is simultaneously a markedmotor paralysis upon the other side. The mucous membranes most frequently affected are those of the pharynxand oral cavity, especially their posterior portions; more rarely the conjunc-tiva as well as the bladder, urethra and rectum. Analgesia may reach itshighest degree in any of these areas. It has been stated that these disturbances may vary in intensity. In com-plete analgesia they are, however, rarely observed and are not of a decidednature.
