Description

Diplomystus fossil on exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

Diplomystus is a double-armored fish similar to the herring. First identified by Edward Drinker Cope in 1877, these fish lived about 56 to 48 million years ago.

The date and place where this fossil was found is irritatingly not provided by the museum.
